Choserito Plena | Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos
Donostia-San Sebastián, 1999
Mon Rivera (Efraín Rivera Castillo) sings Ángel Luis Torruellas‘ Carmela Dame La Llave with Moncho Leña y sus Ases del Ritmo, a song whose version by Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos I have posted before.
No debes hacerme sufrir
In English:
Carmela give me the key, please
Don’t leave me out in the street, please
Have some pity, the cold out here’s killing me
You know I’m missing your warmth
You shouldn’t make me suffer
So I insist again
Carmela give me the key, please
Don’t leave me out in the street, have mercy
Give me the key, Carmela
Please
Oh my heart
My bonbon
Even if it is the gate’s
Give me the key, Carmela
Please
Have mercy
Oh heart of mine
Even if it is the gate’s
Give me the key, Carmela
Please
Have mercy
Please
At least the gate’s
ALLEN TOUSSAINT ~ Solitude (Ellington)
from the album The Bright Mississippi (Nonesuch Records, 2009)
Allen Toussaint - piano
Marc Ribot - acoustic guitar
“Everything is live, of course. This isn’t the kind of assembly-line music where somebody put the wheels on here and somebody put the top on there. Everything got done at the same time, so everybody fed on each other, their personality and tonality.” ~ Allen Tossaint on the album’s recording sessions.
This is too good.
Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos play Carmela Dame La Llave (Carmela give me the key) live.
The band is currently Marc Ribot on the guitar, Anthony Coleman on keyboards, Dafnis Prieto on the drums, Shahzad Ismaily on bass and Martin Vejarano as percussionist.
This one has been playing in my mind since Friday.
